Story of the Stork, Australian newspaper, found materials, 2009. Rabat-Sale Morocco.
Storks migrate during the winter, flying across the north coast of Africa. Now, due to pollution and destruction of their habitat, the storks are reducing in numbers. I created this nest as a tribute to stalks during the Second Spring Edition Festival of the Arts in Rabat - Sale, Morocco. The nest refers to human and bird fertility: umbilical like coils of pink paper wrap securely around the porcelain eggs forming an external womb. The eggs have sperm like tails that glow in the dark at night, symbolising their potential for new life. The title refers to the old tale of storks delivering newborn babies to the doorsteps of expectant parents, connecting human life to the natural, animal world.
